Easter Sunday 2014

Lee and I believe that one of the best gifts we can ever give our kids is a strong marriage.

So over the last few days as we celebrated our anniversary we tried to describe to them three traits of a healthy marriage. We came up with: Commitment, Love, and Reality.

Here is how we explained it:
Commitment: It’s like bacon and eggs. The chicken was involved, the pig was committed. Don’t just be involved.

Love: Yes, romance is fun, but Love is willing to pay a price. So, will I take a bullet for my wife? Yes, as long as she doesn’t nag me :)

Reality: which brings us to the fact that unexpected things happen. Our wedding vow said “for better or worse”. Lets face it, most of marriage is not what you see in the movies. It must be lived in the real world, when we’ve got stuff together and when we’re not our best. We yell, we cry, we get sick, we need time. Denying it is foolish. How you deal with what happens to you is a choice. It’s doing life together - the highs and lows - that makes it worth it!

This weekend we celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. Lee and I believe that one of the best gifts we can ever give our kids is a strong marriage. Over the last few days we tried to describe to them the three traits of a healthy marriage. We came up with: Commitment, Love, and Reality.

Love: Yes, romance is fun, but Love is also willing to pay a price. So, will Itake a bullet for Lee? Yes, as long as she doesn’t nag me :)
Reality: which brings us to the fact that surprises happen. Our wedding vow said “for better or worse”. Lets face it, marriage is not what you see in the movies. For one, we get older. We yell, we cry, we kiss, we need time. Denying it is foolish. How you deal with what happens to you is a choice. Loving through the good and bad makes it worth it.

This weekend our kids excelled. Jake’s Boy Scout troop won the annual district Camporee, Cathy competed in the Regional gymnastics championships, Elize had soccer, and Emma displayed her gift of homemaking (above).
